These savory cookies are perfect to nibble on while tasting wine, or to accompany appetizers. Za'atar is a spice blend available at stores with Middle Eastern foods, or you can find it online.
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 7 ounces unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons za'atar
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Crack the eggs into a large bowl and whisk lightly. Mix in the flour, baking powder, salt, butter, olive oil and water to form a dough. Using your hands, roll about 2-tablespoon portions of dough into ropes, each about the width of a finger. Pinch the ends of the rope to form a little ring. Place the rings on the prepared baking sheet, brush with the egg wash, and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds and za'atar. Bake until the cookies are lightly browned, about 25 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack and enjoy!
